Shyam – A Brave 5-Year-Old Fighting a Serious Heart Disease

Shyam is a cheerful 5-year-old boy from Ludhiana, Punjab. But behind his smile is a serious heart condition that he has been fighting since birth.

Shyam was born with a complex Congenital Heart Disease called Tricuspid Atresia (Type 1B) — a condition where one of the heart’s valves is completely missing. Because of this, his heart cannot pump blood properly, and his body doesn’t get enough oxygen.

In 2020, Shyam underwent a major heart surgery (BD Glenn and atrial septectomy) to help improve his condition. While this helped for a while, it was not a permanent solution.

Now, doctors have said that Shyam urgently needs a Fontan surgery — the final and most important stage of treatment for children with single ventricle hearts like his. This surgery will help improve his oxygen levels, reduce strain on the heart, and give him a real chance at life.

Without this surgery, Shyam’s heart will continue to weaken. His oxygen levels are already very low (around 75%) and he often struggles to breathe, even while doing normal activities.

Shyam’s parents have already spent everything they had on previous treatments. They are now in desperate need of support to save their child.

The cost of the surgery is ₹3,50,000, which they simply cannot afford on their own.
