Eight-year-old Sreya Rai, from Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, was once a cheerful, active child who loved going to school and playing with her friends. A few months ago, her family noticed sudden changes in her health—frequent giddiness, episodes of loss of consciousness, and weakness on the left side of her body. What initially seemed like minor health issues soon turned into a nightmare for her family.
After several medical consultations and tests, Sreya was diagnosed with Midline Brainstem Glioma, a rare and life-threatening brain tumor. The diagnosis left her parents devastated and fearful for their daughter’s future.
Sreya was admitted to AIIMS Hospital, New Delhi, where doctors immediately started radiation therapy and supportive treatment to control the tumor and stabilize her condition. The treatment was long, painful, and emotionally draining, especially for such a young child.
Her father, a small farmer, struggled to manage the rising medical expenses, including radiation sessions, costly medicines, lab investigations, and regular hospital visits. With limited income and exhausted savings, continuing Sreya’s treatment became extremely difficult. At this critical stage, timely support played a vital role in ensuring that her treatment could continue without interruption.
With consistent medical care and compassionate support, Sreya showed encouraging signs of improvement. Her symptoms reduced, her strength slowly returned, and she began responding positively to the treatment. Most importantly, hope returned to her family after months of fear and uncertainty.
Today, Sreya is on the path to recovery, continuing her follow-up care and therapy. She dreams of going back to school, playing freely with her friends, and living a childhood free from hospital walls. This transformation was possible because of timely treatment and the kindness of people who came forward to support her when she needed it the most.
